The Blue Hole in Lighthouse Reef off the coast of Belize is one of the most incredible places on Earth. It is a giant submarine sinkhole, circular in shape, over 984 ft across and up to 400 ft deep. This beautiful diving spot was formed during several episodes of quaternary glaciation when sea levels were much lower.
Analysis of stalactites found in the Great Blue Hole shows that formation took place 153,000; 66,000; 60,000; and 15,000 years ago.
Divers that dare visit this place push to challenge themselves and go deeper, explore more and see the unseen before. The walls of the hole are sheer until 110 ft deep after which, they turn into jagged stalactite formations.This is where the danger sets in and every diver will be advised not to push his or her limits as they risk to get serious injuries and even die.
The Great Blue Hole is a part of the larger Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It was declared in the year 2012 number 1 on Discovery Channel’s “The 10 Most Amazing Places on Earth”.
Yet another dangerous diving spot, the Eagle’s Nest Sinkhole is located in the western part of Weeki Wachee. It is believed to be 1035 ft deep and incredibly dangerous for even the most skilled divers.
The deeper daredevil scuba divers go the more they start to experience Nitrogen Narcosis which causes a sense of euphoria and confusion. This leads divers to lose track of their surroundings and tank levels and can lead to death. Many divers had lost their lives pushing more and more of their limits.
According to wiki Jacob’s Well is a perennial spring located in the Texas Hill Country. The well is fed by the Trinity Aquifer, which pushes up its water through the well and spills it into nearby Cypress Creek.
Jacob’s Well was first discovered in the year 1850 by early settlers who were mesmerized by the perfect looking blue water. This unusual swimming pool can prove to be a challenging and dangerous environment for many daredevils that wish to test their limits.
According to The mystery and danger of Jacob’s Well a few people have died here. The exact number is not known which made this place to be called one of the most dangerous diving spots on the globe. The mouth of the spring serves as an unusual yet popular swimming spot for the locals.
Jacob’s Well cave slopes vertically for about 30 feet, then continues downward at an angle through a number of silted chambers parted by narrow margins. The caves reach an average depth of 120 feet .
Below the surface Jacob’s Well has a deep network of at least 4 main chambers that offer some of the most dangerous cave diving in the world. The loose stones and small space of the 3rd chamber cause many problems. In here divers get confused and start panicking as they lose their way. Not knowing where they are going they start to panic and use up their oxgen tank faster.
A very famous as well as terrifying diving place. The Devil’s Cave is as scary as it sounds. Located in the Ginnie Springs this cave is a deceiving looking diving spot.
The serene looking waters have a very strong flowing current especially at the vortex opening to the Devil’s Ear. Divers that underestimate this place end up regretting it as soon as they are hit by the strong current and their gear gets shifted around. This causes them to panicky and lose their way or finish their oxygen tank faster.
This is known as the most dangerous diving spots in the whole diving community. The Blue Hole itself is a submarine sinkhole approximately 463 ft deep.It has earned the title of “World’s Most Dangerous Dive Site” because of all the deaths that occurred here.
Approximately 150 people have lost their lives while diving in The Blue Hole in the last 10 years. Locals also call it the Diver’s Cemetery.
The goal of this dive site is reaching “The Arch”. From here, divers can swim through to open water. The main problem is that The Arch is 184 ft down, which is beyond the PADI maximum recreational dive limit of 131 ft.
At these depths many divers become confused causing them to miss the opening and swim down even further beyond safe limits.
